EPSA TWIN

Twin, as one of the most famous types of pharmacy students' exchange is always one of the priority projects in Serbia. It offers great possibilities for the participants and presents amazing opportunity for socialization and learning about different culture, history and mentality of the country you are visiting.

NAPSer, Belgrade in cooperation with AEFFUL, Lisbon had a great pleasure and responsibility to organize Twin with official topic "Obesity". Twin was held from 2nd-10th of November 2006. in Belgrade and whole Serbia. We host 11 students from Portugal and they were placed in homes of our students, where they get appropriate accommodation and meals.

Twin was prepared as a combination of educational program, familiarization of pharmaceutical industry and practice and of course well prepared social part which included parties and other interesting activities that young pharmacy students can imagine.

Educational and scientific program was based on short and interesting lectures of the eminent experts on the field of food chemistry, pharmacology and pharmacokinetics from the Faculty of pharmacy in Belgrade, where those lectures took place. We combined lectures with interactive workshops where students had a opportunity to use their knowledge in order to solve key studies of obese patients. All students who participated in those lectures and workshops will get 1 LLC point with the approve of EPSA.

For our colleagues we organized visit of the oldest drug factory in Serbia called "Galenika", where they had a chance to see the situation of pharmaceutical industry in our country and it's development. Some of them for the first time saw the processes of tablet and capsules making and many other interesting activities of pharmaceutical practice. Visit of a Pharmaceutical Society of Serbia was also something new for them and there they had a chance to see and to read some very rare and precious pharmaceutical literature from the library of Pharmaceutical Society.

Our social program was prepared with intention to show to our guests all beauties of Belgrade and Serbia. One day excursion to Sremski Karlovci included visit of medieval Serbian monasteries on mountain Fruska Gora, oldest high school in Serbia and wonderful town of Novi Sad. The real specialty of our Twin was two days excursion to ethno village Mokra Gora with a visits of Serbian monasteries in Ovcar-kablar gorge, beautiful mountain Zlatibor, railway station Shargan's eight and "Wooden town" of Serbian director Emir Kusturica in Mecavnik. To top it all we met famous director and had a nice conversation with him, actually we interrupted him in his work on the new movie. Portuguese also felt and enjoyed in very known Belgrade "night life".

Eight days, of course, wasn't enough time to organize everything we wanted, but I do hope that our friends returned to Portugal with a nice memories of Belgrade and Serbia and that they will visit us again.

However, on behalf of Serbian students I'm saying that we can't wait to go to Lisbon on the second part of our Twin in 2007.

This was the second Twin in history of NAPSer (and also mine), after 2003. when we organized it with our colleagues from Czech Republic. I'm sure that this is still just a beginning of our work and that in the next period we will have lot of similar activities with students from other European countries. So I strongly recommend to all of you to cooperate with your colleagues across Europe and try to be mobile as much as you can. You will see how many advantages you will get from it.
