One of the most attractive projects of EPSA (European Pharmaceutical Students’ Association)  is TWIN – bilateral group exchange within European pharmaceutical faculties. Usually 15-20 students from one country visit their foreign colleagues and then they return the favor. Average TWIN lasts 5-7 days and students are usually accommodated by their hosts or in student dormitories.

This project can also be realized within three countries, in that case it is called a THREEN, or within four, when it is called QUATRINO.  In cases when more than two countries participate, the whole project functions via circular system, which means that each country has the opportunity to be host, while others visit it as guests.

TWIN project represents a great opportunity for meeting new people, their cultures and customs and offers an unique way of professional development and education in the field of pharmaceutical sciences. TWIN is composed of two official parts: educational and social.

Educational part gives students the opportunity to learn something new about current pharmaceutical topics, which are usually not presented enough in the standard curricula, but are highly relevant for their future profession. Each year EPSA defines a specific topic, unique for all the projects which will take place during that period. The topic for  2008. was “Drug abuse”,  for 2009. was “Obesity and Healthy life style”, for 2010. was “Cardiovascular risks” and the topic for this year is “Pharmacovigilance”. Different workshops, panel discussions and lectures are organized concerning this topic, as well as visits to local pharmaceutical faculties, research centers or pharmaceutical industries, regarding what the hosting country has to offer.

Social part consists of sightseeing, excursions and the inevitable degustation of hosting countries national specialties, with traditional music and, of course, unforgettable parties.
Hosting country is obliged to provide accommodation and food for foreign students, while participants usually cover travel costs by themselves, it all depends on possible sponsorships and financial supports for the realization of this project.

TWIN negotiations are a duty of the EPSA LS (Liaison Secretary), while detailed arrangements and the local level organization are conducted by Local Mobility Officers (LMOs), each of them is appointed by their Local Offices of NAPSer.

In Serbia, better said, in NAPSer, TWIN can be arranged between any NAPSer Local Office and EPSA member association. All the information about ongoing TWINs are published on the NAPSer website and distributed via the NAPSer news.
